house: a solid foundation

We still making progress. To go along with our oversized footings, we are now getting a solid foundation. No, we're not going with cinder block foundations. We are having brick, but since we are adding a wrap front porch to the house, we are using the block underneath in areas that will not be visible. There are additional pictures in my gallery showing the brick.
I have to give a ton of credit to our brick mason, Cresswell Masonry! They are doing an incredible job. They have worked hard to help keep us on a good timeline and we are about ready to set the house down. In watching these guys work, I know why I'm not in this line of work. Laying brick is not just a job, it's an artwork. Especially if you are having to work backwards (under a house and not building from the ground up).
You can also see the repair on the seal underneath the house. This board was rotten and had to be replaced. We replaced (I say we, my husband and a good friend, I sat and watched) the seal underneath the back door. When it came time to work on the front of the house, my husband decided that we needed professional help (double entendre there). So we hired a framer who again, did a great job! He came out on a moments notice and had his portion completed so he didn't slow down the masons!
Next step for us is to get the termite treatment, put treated seals on the foundation and then set the house down. Then the rest of the masonry work will commence (for the garage, addition and front porch) as well as the framing of the additions.
Slowly but surely it's coming together. It's beginning to look like a house again!
