does anyone have finches?

My Zebra finches had their first baby five weeks ago and I'm confused as to a couple of things with this baby bird and the parents. If there are any experienced finch owners on this board I'd like to ask a couple of questions. Thanks!

Thanks everyone! Lolly, I will certainly go to the websites. The parents had three eggs but only one baby. The baby is still screaming for food from his parents, although he's the same size as they are! They don't want to feed him and sometimes act really nasty to him because they want to make more eggs. I had to take their nest away once he flew out because I'd read this would happen but they started going into two other hideaways in their (large) cage to do whatever so I had to take those down also. The baby eats millet, eggs and some seed on his own but I don't really know what to do about getting him to eat on his own and if I should ever move him from the cage into his own cage.

I wonder --- I know someone else who has a parakeet and he was fine one morning but dead that afternoon with no signs of what happened to him.

Both of these sites have tons of bird lovers and are very helpful. Be patient. It can take 24 hours for a reply, but the info is very good. Look at ALL the threads and post in a thread dedicated to finches for best results.

Wow Juli. This is very interesting. I can't help you on this but please keep us posted about what you learn. I don't know many people with birds but I would love to have a parakeet and would appreciate knowing more about owning birds overall.

I wonder...Sorry about your parakeet. Do you think that's normal?

Have you googled finches? We had a couple of English Budgies...large parakeets...tried to breed them...nothing happened, so you have had better luck than we have...our male dropped dead a couple of weeks ago, don't know why.
