going mobile

*hanging head* I had a blog all written up and lost it! UGH!
Well, the house is officially mobile. It's completely off the foundation and on at least one set of wheels. The work being done is crazy and there are only 3 men doing it. Let me tell you, they are INCREDIBLE. If you ever need to move a house, I would recommend Richard McCrary, House Movers. He's been in business for nearly 50 years and he makes things happen. He called with the news yesterday that our DOT permits have been secured and he was going to call the SHP to have them "run block" for us. It's really going to happen! There have been times when I had to wonder if it really would!
I've made a new photo gallery to show some more of the work that has been necessary. There are I-beams crossing the floors upstairs. One gouge in the wood floor that we found. We can certainly live with that. It'll be our character mark that we tell people, "When we moved the house...." WOW! That's really all I can say. I'm astounded at watching the process.
Another thing I've enjoyed is watching the people. I'm a people watcher and I get a kick out of watching the 'rubber-neckers' who pass by. Occassionally some of them call out to us and say something. When that happens, a part of me is very curious if perhaps it's someone who's followed the progress through these blogs!!! If it's YOU, don't be shy! Stop by and say hello! You'll have to parden my dishevelment, however. I will either be working or will have just dropped the kids off at school, so my appearance will be the least of my concerns at that moment, so don't judge me too harshly!!
Without further ado, our schedule is firm unless this tropical storm coming in from Texas brings us our much needed rain. So far, the forecast says that if we do, it will be Friday night/Saturday morning, with clearing by Saturday afternoon. So best case scenario, we'll separate the house Saturday, 8:30 am. Next case, Saturday later afternoon. Worst case next week (*sad*).
Assuming it really happens this weekend, then Sunday is the big move. Time to notify the new neighbors. Don't want to start out on a bad foot and being awakened at 6:30 am to look out your window and see a house coming up the driveway could sure create an interesting situation if you are not expecting it.
And finally, Monday will see the house put back together and ready to begin the foundation! PHEW!
Be sure to check out my photo gallery for more pictures in progress!

I looked at the pictures and just marveled at how solidly the house was made - they really built them sturdy, didn't they! So much character, and I know you are happy that your children can share in the heritage of this house.
I'm like Ladyblue - I'd be willing to wait for the rain if it would make your task easier.
