house project-slow, steady, forward

Well, we met with the house mover today and we have finally finalized some more plans. After waiting more than 3 weeks for Progress Energy to give us an estimated cost to drop/raise power lines (and still not having an answer), we have decided to cut the upper floor off the house and move it in two pieces. This is obviously not our preference, but at this point, we just want it moved and cannot continue to wait longer for answers we were promised we'd have in 48 hours.
The mover will begin work on Friday. There will be about a week's worth of dismantling involved to shore up the upper floor in preparation of the move. We will have to take down the railings at the stairs, but he said none of the floors would be damaged. We will spend some time this week removing the cedar walls from the upper floor closets so that they are not damaged by the supports/piers that will be in place when the top of the house if picked up.
Hopefully, the weekend after Labor Day, the house will hit the road. Our footings are in place and waiting. Once we have the house over the footings we will have the brick mason build the foundation. THEN we will finally be ready to work on our part at our pace.
Stay tuned for the next installment - with pictures of the de-construction and move.

I'm very excited and so far, our cost estimates have been pretty close (except for our very LARGE (double sized and cubed) footings.
It makes me nervous to cut it in half, but the mover has been in business for 50 years and explained the process to us. The upstairs floor will be moved with the lower section. There will be supports and beams under the walls of the upper floor. A crane will lift it off the bottom and replace it at the new land.
