anyone interested in term limits???

Published Jul 31, 2007

Frustrated yet?  Want to get rid of career politicians?  We have the power, it's called our vote.

How do we start a grassroots campaign to teach people the power of their vote?

What will it take to get them to understand that voting for incumbents will get the same results, over and over again?

A quote from one of my favorite movies, Blazing Saddles....."Gentlemen, we've got to do something to save our phoney bologna jobs... harrumph...harrumph....harrumph! I didn't get a harrumph out of that guy" (Mel Brooks as the Gov talking to the representives)

Yes Nancy, I'm with you on this one.... I saw an elderly man driving the other day & he had a great bumper sticker... It said "Re-Elect Nobody". I got his attention and gave a him a big Thumbs Up! He just smiled at me and turned his Buick into the ABC store. I should have stopped to shake his hand.

The trouble with routinely voting out all incumbents is that there are still a few good, honest politicians that we may want to keep, and a lot of the newbie challengers are real nutcases that we wouldn't want to automatically elect just because they are "new."

I would support a grassroots effort to force the legislature to redraw the voting districts based on some meaningful geographic boundaries, rather than the current gerrymandered system we have now that always favors the incumbents. There should also be strict limits on the number of years that any one person can serve as a committee chair, speaker, etc. That would have helped prevent the sort of controlling power that Jim Black had developed over the rest of the House. We, as voters, also need to abandon our blind political loyality to one party or another, and start voting for candidates based on other qualities, such as those who run cleaner campaigns or who refuse to accept large corporate donations.

Good points all! Spread the word that now, more than ever in our history on state and federal elections, to throw them out, vote for a new round.

Sure, some are already smooth politicians, but we can vote them out too when their FIRST term expires.

We have the power, we have got to find the will as a whole to send the bums running at our will.

too bad americans no longer are good citizens. You have a two party system (barely) that only wants to maintain the status quo. In a society where Ann Coulture, Rush and Bill Oreilly are consider people to listen too. What about Moore? How many people realize his movies are docudramas?

Don't know about term limits but I am in favor of dumping what we got and installing another round of slickers who do the same thing.

I've already made arrangements. I registered unaffiliated and I plan to vote for for everyone who is running new this year. I've made up my mind that the same politician will not make a dunce of me again. I'd like to change the constitution to only 2 terms per senator. If any politician is found guilty of corruption they auto are fired and lose their pension, like the real world...

Absolutely Nancy! Excellent point!!
