we have footings!

BOY do we have footings. We also have a sense of humor, thankfully! For those who don't know, when you are moving a house onto a property, the footings need to be double-size to allow for flexibility and adjustment when the house is placed. I think the architect who drew our plans knew this and accounted for it in the blue prints/plans. We mentioned this to the contractor who was installing the footings. I may be wrong, but I think we have double, double-sized footings. We basically have sidewalks. Lord have mercy. First we got the bill. OUCH! Then we went and looked at them. What can you do at this point? Nothing but laugh. I feel very assured that our house will not settle. And I suppose if we are going to goof on anything, better to have a VERY solid foundation!

I'm just so excited. I love old houses and this one will mean so much more b/c of the history. I keep watching the show, If Walls Could Talk. I wonder if we'll find anything interesting in the attick or under the house. Hmmm......

If you go under the house that is 80 years old please be carefull. The pesticides they used back then are probably still in the dirt, depending on how much they disturb the ground when they move the house. DDT was popular and very dangerous, and if gotten into an eye or something it could be bad. Take it from someone who found out the hard way.
