GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A Goldsboro teenager has been accused of breaking into a Wayne County home and shooting its owner.

Jeffrey Rishawn Leach Jr., 16, of 1202 E. Mimosa St., was charged with breaking and entering and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday.

He was in the Wayne County Detention Center Thursday morning under a $50,000 secured bond.

Investigators say the crimes happened in the Lakewood subdivision of Dudley on Aug. 28.

Leach was already in jail on similar charges when he was charged Thursday, the sheriff's office said.

He is also a person of interest in similar cases in the area, and further charges are possible, authorities said.
