GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A suspect in a Goldsboro shooting last Saturday was arrested Friday after investigators tracked him down in Wilson.

Goldsboro police said that Tavares L. Lane, 33, shot Marlow E. Holmes, 33, outside the Economy Inn, 802 W. Grantham St. Holmes was listed in critical condition Friday.

Wilson police turned Lane, whose last known address is 116 Racegate Run in Pikeville, over to Goldsboro police.

Lane was treated at Wayne Memorial Hospital for a gunshot wound sustained during the shooting. He was being held under a $50,000 secure bond.

According to state Department of Correction records, Lane's criminal record dates to 1992, and he has spent nearly 13 years of the past 15 in prison. His convictions include second-degree rape, failure to register as a sex offender, several assault charges, robbery and escaping jail, DOC records show.
