— An inmate who escaped from a Goldsboro prison Saturday night was arrested Tuesday afternoon, the North Carolina Department of Correction said.

Johnny Dewayne Dickerson was detained shortly after 1 p.m. in a wooded area off U.S. 17, south of New Bern, DOC spokesman Mike Stater said in a news release.

Dickerson, 29, has been serving a six-month sentence for misdemeanor larceny, communicating threats and simple assault.

He was convicted in November and began his sentence last month, according to the DOC's Offender Public Information database.

JAT, don't count on that.... For the escape, IF they press criminal charges on him, will probably only get 10-12 months. I don't know what kind of other criminal charges he had pending, but they all get out one day!!

The Goldsboro News Argus had a more detailed version yesterday. Evidently, he was waiting trial on more serious felony charges in other counties. Guess he just proved his guilt on those.

He only had 4/5 more months max to go. Now he'll never get out.
