GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Two New York women and a Delaware man nabbed by Goldsboro police last week face more than 250 charges in connection with credit-card fraud that netted gift cards and merchandise worth thousands of dollars.

Joanta Scarlett, 22, of 661 W. Broadway 14 in Monticello, N.Y., and Kevin Duane Anderson, 21, of 1411 Blatty Place in Newark, Delaware, both face 78 counts of financial card forgery and 40 counts of obtaining property by false pretenses.

Anessa Niranjan, 18, of 105-34 8th St. in Queens, N.Y., was charged with 15 counts of aiding and abetting obtaining property by false pretenses.

Investigators believe the suspects stole credit card numbers and maxed them out buying pre-paid Visa cards, gift cards and merchandise from stores, said Sgt. Dwayne Dean, with the Goldsboro police.

He said that on April 6 and 7, Scarlett and Anderson bought nearly $6,000 worth of pre-paid cards and merchandise from the Target store in Goldsboro. On April 11, a police detective from Sierra Vista, Ariz.., told Goldsboro police that one of his residents' credit card was used at the Target store in Goldsboro.

Goldsboro officers arrested Scarlett and Anderson three days later as they were seen leaving the Target store again, Dean said. He said Niranjan was driving their truck.

Inside the truck, police said, they found goods worth at least $12,000, including:

  • $8,250 in $100 and $50 pre-paid Visa Target cards
  • 143 gift cards, whose value hasn't been determined
  • three 32gb iPod Touches
  • two Compaq laptops
  • a wireless back-up camera system
  • four Whistler radar detectors
  • iPod accessories
  • two sets of Embark suitcases
  • Sony iPod dock station
  • a HP laptop
  • Garmin 1450 GPS unit
  • assorted clothing

Scarlett was also charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver a controlled substance, maintaining a vehicle for the purpose of a controlled substance and possession of marjiuana.

All three suspects were placed in the Wayne County jail. Scarlett was given a $593,000 secured bond, Anderson a $530,000 secured bond, and Niranjan a $75,000 secured bond.
