Goldsboro police: Man charged in rape that happened at coffee shop

A 43-year-old Goldsboro man has been charged with rape in connection with an incident reported in September at a coffee shop, police said.

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A 43-year-old Goldsboro man has been charged with rape in connection with an incident reported in September at a coffee shop, police said.

John Crawford Kearney, of 900 Community Drive, is charged with second-degree rape, second-degree forcible sex offense and first-degree kidnapping in an incident reported Sept. 21 at JoJo's Bar & Bistro.

The incident was reported to police shortly after 5 a.m. on Sept. 21 by a woman who knew Kearney. Following the incident, the woman was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Kearney was arrested Saturday at his home and was being held in the Wayne County jail on a $300,000 secured bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 7.
