Goldsboro man charged with murder in Christmas shooting

A Goldsboro man was charged Friday with murder after a woman wounded in a Christmas Day shooting died, authorities said.

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A Goldsboro man was charged Friday with murder after a woman wounded in a Christmas Day shooting died, authorities said.

Jeanne Dawn Suttle was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital after the shooting and then airlifted to Vidant Hospital in Greenville. She died there on Tuesday, authorities said.

Johnnie Allen Jernigan Jr., 43, of 1558 Old Smithfield Road, was initially charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill. charge was upgraded to murder after Suttle died, and Jernigan also was charged with discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle.

He was being held without bond in the Wayne County jail.

No other details of the shooting were released.
