Goldsboro man charged with murder in Christmas shooting

— A Goldsboro man was charged Friday with murder after a woman wounded in a Christmas Day shooting died, authorities said.

Jeanne Dawn Suttle was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital after the shooting and then airlifted to Vidant Hospital in Greenville. She died there on Tuesday, authorities said.

Johnnie Allen Jernigan Jr., 43, of 1558 Old Smithfield Road, was initially charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill. charge was upgraded to murder after Suttle died, and Jernigan also was charged with discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle.

He was being held without bond in the Wayne County jail.

No other details of the shooting were released.

    There are lots of problems can be solved with a prayer but only a very few with a gun. And the NRA has nothing to do with it. There is not one gun in the world that has gotten loaded and fired without human help.

    Prayer is useless- Why are you blaming the gun and not the shooter? My guns have never caused a problem. I leave some of them without supervision, and not one of them has gotten out of the gun safe and went off on a killing rampage!
