Goldsboro man charged with attempted murder in July fight

Posted August 8, 2013

— A 39-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested and charged Wednesday in connection with a brutal July beating that sent another man to the hospital.

Officers arrested Jerry Aundrey Parks Wednesday after finding him in a closet of a home in the 900 block of Fifth Street. He was charged with attempted first-degree murder.

According to investigators, Parks hit Leodis Hamlin Jr. twice in the head with a claw hammer during a fight between the men on July 27. Parks is also accused of stomping Hamlin's head several times. Hamlin was treated and released from Vidant Medical Center following the assault.

Parks was in the Wayne County jail Thursday under no bond. He was scheduled to make a first court appearance at 9 a.m.

Hit someone with a hammer and a foot during a fight and the government will prosecute you harshly.

but if you choose to drive badly, hit people with your car, send them to the hospital with traumatic injuries, or send them to the morgue you will typically not get a charge as serious as attempted murder.
