Goldsboro man charged in machete assault

A homeless man was arrested Tuesday after Goldsboro police said he cut another man with a machete.

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A homeless man was arrested Tuesday after Goldsboro police said he cut another man with a machete.

Steven Charles Taylor, 47, whose address was listed as “streets of Goldsboro,” was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

Officers said they responded to a wooded area in the 2700 block of Royal Avenue about 11:20 a.m. and found Michael Stephen Barber with a cut from a machete. The cut was not life-threatening. Barber was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was in stable condition.

Taylor was held in the Wayne County jail on a $25,000 bond. He is scheduled for a first court appearance Friday.

Police did not release more details about the crime.
