Goldsboro man, 61, wanted for armed robbery found in Johnston County

Benson, N.C. — A 61-year-old man was arrested in Johnston County on Wednesday for the June 6 armed robbery of a convenience store, officials said.
John Earl Hinton Jr., of 523 Stadium Dr., Goldsboro, was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, according to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. Acting on a tip, Johnston County authorities found and arrested Hinton at 719 Slippery Bank Court, Benson.
Hinton was turned over to Wayne County authorities and was jailed under a $100,000 secured bond.
Officials said Hinton was wanted for the robbery of the Five Points Food Mart at 335 US Highway 13 South, Goldsboro. Surveillance video showed Hinton enter the store, display a handgun and steal money from an employee, according to authorities.
Hinton fled the scene, and deputies found his abandoned vehicle in a field at the intersection of Durham Lake and O'Berry roads in Mount Olive.
