GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A seventh case of West Nile virus has been reported in North Carolina, authorities said Monday.

A 10-year-old Goldsboro boy was in fair condition at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville after contracting the mosquito-borne illness.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has called one of the deadliest years yet for West Nile virus. About 4,900 people contracted the illness, and more than 220 people have died from it, including two in North Carolina.
