— Roxboro police said a 14-year-old girl was shot Monday evening at a ball field owned by Person County.

Lt. Todd Boycher said the shooting occurred at Longhurst Ball Park, 425 Long Ave., between 6:15 and 6:30 p.m.

The girl was taken by ambulance to Person Memorial Hospital in Roxboro and then airlifted to Duke University Hospital in Durham. Boycher said her injuries are not considered life-threatening.

A police detective was talking to the girl and her family at the hospital, developing information about the case.

Boycher said investigators had at least one person of interest but haven't named anyone as a suspect or filed charges in the case.

The victim's name was not released because she is a juvenile.

I am curious as to when this story will be updated? Rumors are flying around town that she is a student & softball player @ NMS. It sure would be nice to know how she is doing & if thay have arrested someone. I sure do hope this young lady will be ok & my prayers go out to her.

There will always be crime. A person has a right to defend themselves or their family. Yes, I believe you have right to bare arms. Until we the people, do something about the criminals, these incidents will continue to happen. You have to make the punishment fit the crime. If you do not agree......then shut up and quit complaining.

"the Act provides a minimum sentence of fifteen years" And you don't think thats enough?

I don't understand this statement. I simply said the NRA pushed for tougher punishmnet ---and they did. Prehaps I should have said a different gun culture----I don't think you can argue a point based strictly on emotion, which is all you have done. The fact is most gun crimes are comited by criminals and criminals don't care about breaking gun laws. I can't make it any simplefor you than that . If you but into anti gun fear mongering , I can't help that either. How many NRAers do you think have comited a felony with a gun? The UK and Swiss are similar countrys, but yet.

Wow. All I can say is wow. This is only about four miles from my house and a park that my son played Little League baseball at.

"the Act provides a minimum sentence of fifteen years"
And you don't think thats enough? This just shows that dumb kids just don't even consider the consequences of what they do (we were all young and pretty dumb once so lets face it that pretty much the case) 15 years would be a lifetime to them yet they still play with guns.....

"You could not be more wrong. They have shooting ranges over there like we have golf coarses. You see people riding bikes with guns slung over the shoulder going to ranges--"
Perhaps I should have said a different gun culture. Seriously you cannot compare the USA and Switzerland! their population is less than 8 million......In a place that looks like a candy box cover.
