Girl, 12, struck on U.S. 70 in Wayne County

Goldsboro, N.C. — A 12-year-old girl was struck and critically injured by a pickup truck on U.S. Highway 70 in Wayne County Thursday night.
State troopers said the girl ran out into traffic on the highway outside Goldsboro shortly before 9:30 p.m. She was flown to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
The pickup driver, James Brooks Jr., 67, of New Bern, was charged with driving while impaired. Troopers said that he had been drinking.
