RALEIGH, N.C. — It's only fitting the Carolina Hurricanes open the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs on a Saturday night in Raleighwood.

Game 1 between the Hurricanes and the New York Islanders will start at 5 p.m. E.T. at PNC Arena on Saturday. The game will be broadcast on TBS and truTV.

The NHL announced Wednesday night the dates, start times and national television coverage for the Eastern Conference Game 1s in the best-of-seven series.

The complete first-round schedule will be released at a later date. The NHL regular season ends Thursday night.

But the Eastern Conference match-ups were set Tuesday night.

Toronto visits Boston in Game 1 on Saturday night at 8 p.m. (TBS, truTV). Tampa Bay and Florida open their series on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. (ESPN), while Washington visits the New York Rangers for Game 1 on Sunday at 3 p.m. (ESPN).

The eight Western Conference playoff teams are set, but the seeding is not completely set.

The Hurricanes are likely to be without forward Jesper Fast at the beginning of the series against the Islander. Fast did not practice Thursday and is unlikely to practice Friday, coach Rod Brind'Amour said.
