COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA — An Iraqi war veteran is running across the state of Iowa, and he's doing it while wearing a gas mask.

"It symbolizes the struggles that all veterans go through when they come back to civilian life and find challenges in the civilian world and trying to get back into a community of people that are there to help," Joshua Jorgenson said.

He is running from Council Bluffs to Burlington, Iowa.

Jorgenson says he wanted to raise funds and awareness of the staggering number of veteran suicides that take place every year.

He will run 30 to 40 miles a day across the Iowa Hills.
