DURHAM, N.C. — A gas leak in Durham prompted authorities to evacuate a couple of homes in the area Monday afternoon.

Angie Townsend, a spokeswoman for PSNC Energy, said a 4-inch pipe ruptured at South Roxboro Street and Lakewood Avenue.

Crews had to cut through asphalt to repair the leak, causing police to set up a detour on Roxboro Street for most of the evening.

Evacuations were minimal, authorities said, because most of the area is under construction.
