Gas leak reported in downtown Durham

Firefighters shut down part of downtown Durham Tuesday after a gas leak near the Durham School of the Arts.

DURHAM, N.C. — Firefighters shut down part of downtown Durham Tuesday after a gas leak near the Durham School of the Arts.

A spokeswoman for PSNC Energy said a third-party contractor struck a 2-inch gas line at 1002 Monmouth Ave., near Gregson Street.

PSNC crews were able to shut off the leak and were working to repair the line early Tuesday afternoon.

Roads in the area were temporarily closed.
