Businesses reopen at Raleigh's Ridgewood Center after gas leak

Raleigh, N.C. — Stores in Raleigh's Ridgewood Shopping Center were evacuated for almost three hours Friday afternoon after a gas leak was reported on a nearby service road.
A road crew paving behind the shopping center hit a gas line at about 2:30 p.m.
By 5 p.m., the leak was brought under control, and firefighters gave the all-clear for stores to reopen.
The one casualty was the food on the Whole Foods hot bar. When the store was evacuated and the gas turned off, that food went bad. Whole Foods employees were working to refill the hot bar for the dinner rush.
All businesses in the plaza expected to keep normal hours Friday evening.
