RALEIGH, N.C. — A construction crew hit a gas line at North Hills mall in Raleigh Thursday afternoon, prompting evacuations of neighboring homes and businesses, authorities said.

PSNC Energy said a contractor hit the 2-inch natural gas line around 3:30 p.m. Less than an hour later, the utility was able to shut off the valve and allowed people back inside nearby buildings.

Raleigh police and firefighters remain at the scene while PSNC crews fix the ruptured line.

No one was injured.
