Garner's Lake Benson Park plans family flicks, camping

Garner has two opportunities for families to catch an outdoor movie and camp overnight at the town's Lake Benson Park.

The Friday Family Flicks and camp outs are May 17 and June 14. The movies are free and open to the public. You don't need to be an overnight camper to catch the movies. They start around 8:30 p.m. In May, the featured flick is "Wreck it Ralph." In June, it's "Madagascar 3." No pre-registration is required for the movies, which are shown on a 30-foot outdoor movie screen that's placed on the park's main stage. Be sure to bring a blanket or chair to watch the movie.

You do need to sign up in advance to camp. Families can arrive as early as 6 p.m., May 17 and June 14, to set up their tents and camping gear (you must bring your own). No portable grills or pets are allowed at the event. You have to bring your own food and beverages too (snacks will be available for purchase during the movies). The fee to camp is $12 per family for town residents and $15 per family for non-residents.

Go to Garner's website or call 919-773-4442 for more information and to sign up.
