Posted September 6, 2011

— Garner police are trying to find a man accused of shoplifting and carjacking on Tuesday.

Police said a man stole merchandise from the Belk department store on Garner Station Boulevard around 5 p.m. The man then fled the store and jumped into a car and threatened the driver with a knife.

The driver was later found unharmed with his car.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact Garner police at 919-772-8810.

LOL, ya think they are really going to give the public a description of this guy. lol

I have no doubt they'll get him with that great photo of him.

My guess is Belk security chased him out of store and his ride wasn't available, he walked, or didn't want to reveal which car was his. Hopefully when the police find him, he'll challenge them with a gun and they'll solve the problem.

Yet another reason why I keep my car doors locked at all times.

@bracksdad, a gun wouldn't help you in this situation. There's not enough time for you to react. The perp would be in your car with his knife on you in less than 2 seconds. You'd have to be driving around with your weapon drawn, loaded & ready...which would be fine in Iraq...but at a shopping mall? You'd have a much better chance being a fast & strong martial artist.

All parts of any area is "creepy" nowadays for innocent people who don't wantto fall victim to those who don't want to make a honest living, it doesn't matter what part or which area, rich, poor, black, white...no place is really safe anymore.

Perhaps I can clear up the jurisdictional confusion--thanks to the USPS. That area has a Raleigh 27603 zip code but it is in Garner's corporate limits. The GPD have also released a very good photo of the suspect. Not sure why it's not here yet.

gmuny33 - what are you talking about? Belk is clearly in Garner not Raleigh. It has a Garner zip code and is covered by the Garner PD. If the crime was unnoticed, why are we all reading about it and commenting on it? Because it was noticed!
