Garner police officer arrested, charged with assault on female

— A Garner police officer is on administrative leave after being arrested in connection with assaults on two different women.

Silvestre Mendoza, 26, of 271 Wagner Road in Willow Spring, was charged with two counts of assault on a female.

According to an arrest warrant, Mendoza on Friday hit a woman, threw her around and attempted to hit her in her face. On Saturday, he bit another woman in the middle of the right side of her back, leaving marks, the warrant states.

According to the Garner Police Department, Mendoza was hired on March 21 and was assigned to the patrol division.

An internal investigation is underway.

    Glad to get him off the road before something "really" bad happened. Certainly not good what he did, but it could have escalated with time. Better keep an eye on this character, he will most likely show up in the news again.

    He BIT the 2nd woman?? He has too much pent up anger to be dealing with the public. So sad, we need good officers
