Garner man accused of secretly videotaping girls

Posted April 3, 2012

— Johnston County sheriff's deputies have arrested a Garner man accused of secretly videotaping two girls 10 years ago.

The victims, who were 11 and 12 at the time of the alleged peeping, only recently learned about the videotaping and contacted authorities last month to report it, Capt. A.C. Strickland said Tuesday.

Anthony Lee Friebel, 52, of Kristi Drive, was taken into custody Friday evening as he got off a plane at Raleigh Durham International Airport. During a search of his residence, Strickland said, authorities found child pornography.

Friebel was charged with two counts of secret peeping, two counts of taking indecent liberties with a child and one count of first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. He was being held in the Johnston County jail under a $500,000 bond.

To bad this guy didn’t do this in cary, it is OK there! My daughter’s high school teacher was CAUGHT video taping her getting dressed and underdressed in December of 2007. The cpd investigated it, the teacher ADMITTED taping her, but claimed it was an accident, (said he was trying to charge the camcorder and hit record my mistake. The camera was hidden in the room he had her and possibility others changing for a body fat experiment) Since it was an “accident” he was not charged. What BS! Wonder if the fact it happened at a prestigious private school, in cary, had anything to do with that decision. My daughter has two more years of Law School then she will settle the score, and I can rest! BTW, since he was NOT charged, he could be doing the same thing to your children, and yes he is teaching again.

    Signed ,

Maybe he should slip, fall, and lose his eyesight while he's in jail?

"... taken into custody Friday evening as he got off a plane at Raleigh Durham International Airport."

    Now, that's what I call waiving extradition. How's that for a welcome-home?

I agree, DirtDoktor, that the action taken on behalf of the young women in this case is a good sign. That's exactly why we need to remove all statutes of limitations on crimes such as these. Children may need time to name the abuses that were perpetrated on them, and may need to know they are supported before they file reports.

I see this as a positive reflection of our growth as a society. These girls were listened to, taken seriously and the offender was caught and will be judged. If the moral of story becomes, "you will eventually be found out" than maybe, in time, these types of crimes will become be rare. I think we're moving in the right direction.

If I were married to this fool and found out it was my daughters he had been taping?? As the saying goes ' til death do us part'- we would be parted because he would be dead!!

@JuicyDeetts, I read another article that listed the victims as his two stepdaughters

So much of this type of crime is showing up more and more in the news. Its an embarassment to the good men who live right and would not ever think of doing anything like this. Take him to the Vet and have him fixed so he want be after the other prisoners. I forgot that the cons may be to old for him.
