Gardner goes 'Over the Edge' for Special Olympics

Raleigh, N.C. — WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner became the latest member of the WRAL staff to go "Over The Edge" Friday for Special Olympics. Gardner rappelled 30 stories off the Wells Fargo Capitol Center Building on Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics North Carolina.

The opportunity to rappel is available to those who raise $1,000 or more for Special Olympics. More than 100 people are expected to make the drop on Saturday.

She followed in the well-tethered footsteps of Ken Smith and Mandy Mitchell, who made the drop in 2010 and 2011, respectively.

I am impressed! Way to go young lady! Maybe someone will give you a Wonder Woman costume for Christmas cause you are something else! And back home the kids are saying "Guess what my Mommy did today!"

I love the Special Olympics.

Spend a little time with these wonderful members of our society and all our political bickering seems irrelevant.

I was there to watch her and some of the other media folks. It is an awesome adventure and way to bring awareness to our community. thank you WRAL for all your employees who are involved in the Triangle community. My husband did it for 2 years, including last year in a Chick-Fil-A cow suit!

great job, Elizabeth! wasnt that fun? i did that many years ago in the army, just repelling rope and D-ring and my own upper arm strength and legs! know cameras, no pullies and no saftey harness...it was if you do it right you wont get hurt thing, LOL! now that you have done that, why not take up real rapelling?
