RALEIGH, N.C. — Cool temperatures and quiet, dry skies greeted the Triangle and surrounding areas Monday morning after Matthew's force and destruction, and the weather should remain calm all week.

"It does feel really nice outside," said WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner.

Temperatures were chilly, in the upper 40s, Monday morning, and Gardner says it will be even cooler Tuesday. "We'll have one of the coolest nights of fall so far this tonight when temperatures drop into the low to mid 40s," said Gardner. "It's been awhile since our temperatures were that cool."

Since many people are still without power, the colder temperatures could be a concern overnight. "It's not winter yet, but it's time to get the jackets and blankets out," said Gardner.

A cold front following Hurricane Matthew and moved through the area Monday, and Gardner says temperatures will remain mild all week.

"Everything is quiet, which is normally the case after a tropical system moves through," said Gardner. "We have some beautiful fall weather."

Little to no rain is expected to fall this week, providing a dry stretch that will help residents recover from the severe flooding left by Matthew. "The Tar River, the Cape Fear River and the Neuse River are still rising," said Gardner. "No rain will make those problems any worse this week, but it will take four to five days before the levels come down below flooding level."

The dry, cool weather should be a perfect match for the North Carolina State Fair, which begins Thursday. "We'll have very low humidity and low winds as the week continues," said Gardner. "It's great weather for the activities that were rescheduled due to Matthew."
