Fishel: Rain likely to stay away until next week

The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center on Wednesday raised the Triangle and surrounding area to a severe threat to level one, indicating the potential for somewhat severe storms.

Although the sun may not have a strong presence Thursday, with partly-cloudy conditions in the forecast, Fishel said the chance for rain decreases and may not return until Monday.

"Our chances for seeing rain are going to be less and less over the coming days," he said.

The chance to see showers increases Sunday night into Monday, but Fishel said if any precipitation falls, it will likely be in the form of an afternoon shower.

"There's still a chance you can get out and get things done before the weekend is over without getting wet," he said.

Along with the dry air will come cooler temperatures, that could make the first week of June quite comfortable, Fishel said.

"We could actually have a stretch next week where we have highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s, which is not bad for June in North Carolina," he said.
