Garden builds sense of community in southeast Raleigh

The Inter-Faith Food Shuttle's Camden Learning Garden was created to bring together the community and help neighbors grow their own food.

"This space provides the community with a place to not only grown themselves personally by learning new skills, eating healthier foods, but it also helps us grow the community," said Katie Murray with the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle.

Children and adults of all ages were encouraged to participate.

"It's kind of fun because we get to plant whatever we want and we eat healthy stuff and it keeps us living," said Jermain Sanders.

The garden and the training program, Seed To Supper, were made possible by Lee Walker and Will Jeffers and the Jamie Kirk Hahn Foundation. Hahn was a political strategist who was stabbed to death in 2013 by friend and colleague Jonathan Broyhill, who was sentenced to life in prison.

Her husband, Nation Hahn said the program reflects "Jamie's passions and what she care about."

"It's a powerful reminder that her spirit is still here," he said. "It means that she's not gone."
