Garbage trucks will come earlier in Durham

Posted June 11, 2008

— To accommodate workers who labor outdoors, the City of Durham will collect garbage, yard waste and recycling one hour earlier during the summer months.

Residents are asked to place carts on the curb the night before their scheduled pickup. Collection crews will arrive in most neighborhoods by 6 a.m.

Missed collections can be reported to Durham One Call at (919) 560-1200.

With the automated trash collection it's not as big of a deal as it use to be, but the yard waste and most recycling pickup has a lot of manual labor, especially the recycling. But, that's soon to change in Durham too. Recycling will be collected like the trash, automatic arm, and sorted at the facility. The recycling guy that comes to my house works his tail off, so I'll do whats necessary to reduce his time in the heat.

Hello, Durham Garbage Company? I forgot to put my garbage out and you missed picking it up. Can you come back out and get it now?

If they put it out the night before as required, why would they need to call?

KevinUNC97--Durham has nothing to do with the mail. If you are at the end of a route, that is why it gets there late sometimes; especially during the summer when letter carriers take vacation and temp workers deliver the mail. Unfamiliar routes take a long time.

Maybe our mail can come before 7pm now too?
