FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. — Harnett County deputies arrested a Fuquay-Varina woman early Tuesday in connection with a slaying at her home, authorities said.

Kelly Elizabeth Rose, 37, of 448 Oakridge Duncan Road, was charged with first-degree murder and was being held without bond in the Harnett County jail.

Rose called the Harnett County 911 center shortly after 11:30 p.m. Monday to ask for EMS assistance at her home. She said that Steven Neva Cain, 33, who also lived at the residence, had suffered an accidental injury, authorities said.

By the time paramedics arrived, Cain was dead, authorities said. Investigators determined that he had suffered wounds to the chest and leg.

No details about Cain's injuries were released, but investigators said he wasn't shot.

The sheriff's office also released no details about a possible motive for the slaying, but deputies said they have responded to domestic calls at the home in the past.
