Fuquay-Varina Subway manager charged with sexually assaulting 3 female employees

The manager of a Fuquay-Varina Subway restaurant was charged Wednesday with sexually assaulting three employees, including a 17-year-old girl.

FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. — The manager of a Fuquay-Varina Subway restaurant was charged Wednesday with sexually assaulting three employees, including a 17-year-old girl.

Garfield A. Oates, 38, of Angier, was charged with three counts of sexual battery, according to the Fuquay-Varina Police Department.

On Feb. 11, a woman who used to work at the restaurant reported that Oates has sexually assaulted her while she worked there. As authorities investigated, two women who previously worked at the sandwich shop reported being sexually assaulted by Oates.

Each incident was reported to have occurred at the location at 1326 N. Main St., near the intersection of Main Street-U.S. 401 and Judd Parkway.
