Fuquay-Varina mattress store robbed

Posted August 13, 2009

— Investigators are looking for a man wanted in connection with an armed robbery Thursday morning at a Fuquay-Varina mattress store.

The robbery happened around 9 a.m. at Mattress Discount, at 101 N. Main St., police said.

The store's owner reported to investigators that a man, appearing to be in his 30s, entered the store with what appeared to be a handgun protruding from the waistline of his pants and demanded money.

The robber then forced the store owner into a back room and left with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said. He was last seen driving west on N.C. Highway 42 toward West Academy Street in a small white four-door vehicle.

No one was injured, and police offered no other information about the crime.

They ask that anyone with information about the crime call the Fuquay-Varina Police Department at 919-552-3191 or 919-753-1029.

"You know the police station is accross the street. Maybe he knew there was cash available?"

That's what I was thinking. Must be an amateur - robbig a bed store across the street from the cop shop. I wonder where they kept the dough - under a mattress?

He probably just needed enough cash to walk next-door to get some 'Bling' at the Pawn Shop and a fresh haircut at the Barber. It's a shame, just last year I used to drop off my kids to run free and play in that neighborhood....
