Fuquay-Varina man sentenced to 15 years for bank robbery

GREENVILLE, N.C. — A Fuquay-Varina man charged in a BB&T bank robbery in Apex last March was sentenced Tuesday to 15 years in federal prison.

Van David Kalcevic, 22, pleaded guilty Oct. 15 to bank robbery by force and violence and by intimidation and to knowingly using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.

Upon his release, he will also serve five years of supervised released.

Apex police say he robbed the bank branch, at 1130 Bear Creek Commons Drive, of approximately $4,422, and then stole a bank employee's car to get away from the scene.

At the time he was charged, Kalcevic had been in the Wake County jail for unrelated charges.
