Fuquay-Varina man charged with choking woman

Raleigh, N.C. — A Fuquay-Varina man faces charges that he tried to strangle and seriously a injured a woman early Sunday, according to an arrest warrant.
The warrant states that Roy Earl Garris, 54, grabbed the victim's neck with both hands and said he would kill her before police caught him. The woman suffered two black eyes, injuries to her nose and contusions on her ribs and above her left eyebrow, according to the warrant.
The incident occurred in Raleigh.
Garris, of 90 June Bug Lane, was charged with assault by strangulation and assault causing serious bodily injury. His first court appearance was set for Oct. 4.
Garris was on probation for two fraud-related convictions in January, according to state Department of Correction records.
