— Authorities arrested a Fuquay-Varina man Monday on charges he abused his 9-week-old daughter two times in May.

Michael Jairnes Lunsford, 31, of 720 Perry Howard Road, was being held in the Wake County Jail under a $50,000 bond. His first court appearance was scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The child suffered serious injuries on May 3 and May 13 that were consistent with shaken baby syndrome, police said. The baby is expected to survive.

Authorities charged Lunsford with child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury.

He was previously arrested in 2004 for failure to appear for several traffic violations. In 1998, he was charged with assault with a deadly weapon.

This photo looks familiar. Clean up the facial hairs in photoshop and just have the ears come out a little more, WOW!

I am not going to comment on this man's guilt or not, as there are many details not known. I want to share with everyone a very informative website, www.dontshake.com this site is an official site for Shaken Baby Prevention. You will find that North Carolina is leading the way in the prevention of shaken baby syndrome (SBS/AHT) via a pilot program presenting The Period of PURPLE Crying. This initiative has been in effect in many North Carolina hospitals, and at the secondary levels in parenting programs, and community health programs. Parents are informed about the dangers of SBS, and steps they can take to comfort the baby, and cope with the stress of a PURPLE crier. They watch the dvd Period of PURPLE crying before discharge home with the baby, and are given a copy to take home. I work with families that have found this dvd to be a great help once they get home. Please check this site out...once again it's www.Dontshake.com Also reach out to stressed parents, and offer to help.

Shellbell, please make it known where you work. I believe everyone would love to take their loved ones to a facility where educated professionals work. "Cuz" and "Cudn't" don't show much of an education on your part. Please learn that it's spelled because and couldn't. I'd hate to get a copy of my medical records after you've taken care of me and it says "I cudn't get a blood pressure cuz I cudn't hear it." Don't make a fool of yourself and portray yourself to be uneducated, please.

tarable1273..if that's the case then you may need to stop putting his case defense out on the web. Anyhow, why would a child be taken all the way to UNC hospitals when you live in Raleigh? Is there a reason for bypassing, Wakemed? Why is the baby anaemic? You have opened up more worms for your friend. Hope you contribute toward his lawyer fees.

Milli .... abusing, beating, kicking, hitting ... GET OVER SYMANTICS!!! Abuse is abuse is abuse! And SHAKING a 9 week old infant might as well be BEATING!

  • Milli Jul 21, 2009

Tarheel born - WRAL changed the title of the story.... it did say earlier today "Beating" the baby. I'm praying the baby will be ok.

$50,000 hope this "100% supportive" family can afford this. Falsification of a medical record. Are you nuts? Believe me, no doctor or nurse is going to put their job on the line by making up injuries consistent with shaken baby. If that were the case, every ignorant parent that runs their child to the Emergency Department without having an E-M-E-R-G-E-N-C-Y would have false documentation written on their child and be put in jail for being stupid.

tarable1273, I hope you are right. We all know that hospitals and doctors can make mistakes! I am not saying they did in this case! But you have to see where these folks are coming from, it is reported a small child is hurt. It is not the first time this type of thing has happen? Most of the cases proved to be accurate!

Sounds like this little girl never even had a fair chance at life.

If he is truly innocent, he will not remain where he is.

I cannot help but think they wouldn't have arrested him if they didn't know something wrong happened.

My thoughts are with the little one. It is truly the only innocent one involved.
