Fuquay-Varina is keeping its new splash pad open through Sept. 26.

The splash park, which opened at South Park at 900 S. Main St. in July, has been a popular spot for kids to cool off this summer. Original plans called for keeping it open through Labor Day and perhaps longer, depending on the weather and the interest.

Town officials have decided to keep it open daily, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., through Sept. 26. This summer, the park is free. The 6,000-square-foot pentagon-shaped pad features multiple jets of streaming water and more than 35 water features. The park's new South Park Pavillion, offering some shade and a spot for picnics, also is now open.

Also, the Fuquay-Varina Junior Women's Club recently donated an aquatic wheelchair for use at the splash pad. To use the chair, call 919-552-1430 or info@fvparks.org or drop by the front desk at the Fuquay-Varina Community Center. For Sunday use, give the town at least 24 hours notice.
