— A car that ran off the road in Durham Tuesday night damaged Frontier Communications switching equipment, knocking out telephone and internet service for several hundred customers.

Customers in the areas of Terry Road, Bivens Road and St. Mary’s Road were offline through Wednesday morning while Frontier technicians worked to re-establish their connection.

The car plowed into a box housing Frontier equipment and pushed it off the foundation.

Full service may take days to restore, Frontier said in a news release.

Who in their right mind would have any service from Frontier? They are awful.

Everyone in Durham who had land lines with Verizon were automatically transferred to Frontier when Verizon decided to unload the land lines a few years ago. We didn't have any choice about our carrier if we wanted to keep a traditional wired land line phone. That said, the few times I have had to get Frontier over for service, I really haven't had any problems.

You thought their service couldn't get any worse by no fault of their own?

Frontier didn't crash a car into this.

Any other service provider, other than AT&T/SBC, probably goes through a similar neighborhood distribution and would have the same issues.

That the standard. We are so lucky that Al Queda isnt on our shores because they could have a field day on this kind of stuff before anyone could even mobilize to stop them.

Is this a serious question? TWC's internet is FAR better than Frontier, in every aspect. Then, pretty much any VoIP carrier is better than Frontier and definitely CHEAPER!

Hopefully the driver will be held financially responsible to Frontier.
