RALEIGH, N.C. — In a rare Friday session, House members tackle the budget, tax reform and natural gas drilling.

Various House subcommittees rolled out sections of the chamber's proposed spending plan, which will be hashed out and cobbled together in the coming days.

During a lengthy floor debate, the House voted to overhaul the state tax code – lowering personal and corporate income taxes while expanding sales taxes to various services – and to tap the brakes on the Senate's fast-track plans to allow gas drilling in North Carolina.
