FREMONT, N.C. — A Fremont soldier was killed Saturday during a training exercise at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, Calif., the military announced.

Pfc. Andrew J. Sass, 23, had been in the military since May 2013 and attended One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Ga. He had not served on an overseas deployment.

Military officials did not give any details about what happened to Sass during the training exercise. The incident is under investigation.
