Freight train strikes pedestrian in Raleigh

A middle-aged man walking along railroad tracks was struck by a Norfolk-Southern freight train on Monday afternoon.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A middle-aged man walking along railroad tracks was struck by a Norfolk-Southern freight train on Monday afternoon.

The accident occurred near the intersection of Hillsborough and Beryl streets, near the Royal Street train crossing, around 12:45 p.m., police said. The train was moving slowly at the time.

Police said the man was unconscious at the scene, but his prognosis appeared to be good. His name has been withheld.

The intersection of Hillsborough and Beryl streets was closed, along with the Royal Street train crossing.
