Great news for parents and anyone taking care of little ones during the summer: The annual summer movie programs for kids will be starting up again during the week of June 16! This is a great way to beat the summer heat for very little cost.

Many theaters offer free movies or charge a reduced amount. These movies are rated either G or PG.

For a super database of the area summer movie programs, head to the Free and Cheap Family Movies link above from WRAL's Go Ask Mom blog. You can search by county or for a specific theater. Sarah, the Go Ask Mom Editor, has done an excellent job of including all the important details like the dates of movies, start times, cost at each theater, the specific movies that will be shown (if available) and much more. You'll find indoor and outdoor movie events for locations in the Triangle, Wilson, Sanford and Fayetteville.

Keep in mind that many of these shows fill up fast. Make sure you get to the theater early to buy your tickets. When my girls were younger, we went to many of the free and $1 movies and there were usually camps and day cares that filled the seats quickly.
