FRANKLINTON, N.C. — A Franklinton woman died Monday from injuries she suffered Friday while riding an all-terrain vehicle, authorities said.

Niki Edwards, who was in her early 20s, was part of a group of people riding ATVs on Sims Bridge Road near the Mitchiners Crossroads community late Friday. Authorities said Edwards hit a cable that was strung across the road and was knocked off her vehicle.

She suffered head and neck injuries and was taken to Franklin Regional Medical Center for treatment. She was later airlifted to Duke University Hospital, where she died.
