— Two Marine reservists were killed early Sunday when they crashed into a utility pole off West River Road in Franklin County, according to the state Highway Patrol.

The driver, Evan Alexander Tucker, 22, of Franklinton, lost control of the vehicle and ran off the road around 12:45 a.m., troopers said. He was trapped inside when the vehicle caught fire.

His passenger, Richard Wade Halford, 22, of Wake Forest, was found outside the vehicle. Both men were dead when before paramedics arrived.

No other vehicles were involved. Speed was a factor in the wreck, troopers said, but they were still trying to determine why Tucker lost control.

This little town keeps getting its heart broke. Everyone here is so close & thats why I love it..but I hate loosing all these young people, especially the one's I grew up with. Hopefully they won't party too hard until it's everyone's time to come home...RIP Evan & Wade. Didn't know Wade personally, but Evan was such a sweetheart. Praying for their families & friends!

Sad, these kids made a mistake and it cost them their lives. Trapped the car and it burned, how terrible. I hope others read this and learn something from this accident. Slow down, obey the speed limit, buckle up, drive carefully...your life depends on it...

My heart goes out to all the people who knew these boys and specially to their families. No one is guaranteed a 'tomorrow'. Please please please young folks, be careful and don't drink and drive. It's not worth it.

This story has so many sad sides to it. My boys grew up with these boys and went to school with them. This is another loss that this group of kids here in Franklin County have had to suffer. They lost another friend in a car accident on the same road and yet another on a 4 wheeler again same road. All of this has happen within the past 1 1/2 TO 2 YEARS. We have a close community where all the kids know one another and truly care for each other. They have suffered so much loss to be so young. I just pray that they realize it can happen to anyone and start being a little more careful and slower on the roads and off. All kids think it won't happen to them. I am sure Evan, Wade, Kyle and Niki would have done things just a little different if they could. God truly has some awesome angels up in heaven now. RIP Evan and Wade!

These two young men were class mates of my grandaughter. There are so many whose lives they have touched in one way or another. My heart breaks for their families, loved ones and those who have known and will miss them going forward. I pray for peace, acceptance and serenity in their lives. All the explnations and reasons for this tragic situation will not bring them back. Theu are gone. Let them rest in peace.
