— Franklin County Sheriff Pat Green resigned Sunday after more than 20 years at the sheriff's office and four years as sheriff, a county attorney said.

He cited "health and personal matters" as the reasons for his resignation.

Chief Deputy Elliott Pinnell will take over the sheriff's duties until the county commission appoints a replacement.

Green was elected sheriff in 2006 and re-elected in 2010.

lineofduty-i see your true colors. If you REALLY think that LEOs should be beyond reproach...then I hope your gut misfires the next time you need it.

Folks like that are criminals in uniform.

tell ya ... with what little credibility the SBI has, they just keep plugging away. And lately, they are plugging away like canabals. However, in that state trooper case where the trooper was driving 120mph and killed that woman, they said she was in the wrong which is completely unbelieveable!!!

Doing the right thing is sometimes difficult especially when setting down a lifelong dream. Good luck pal, hope everything comes together for ya.

Wouldn't this situtation be the same as when Lucy Allen resigned? The democratic party will appoint a replacement and the commissioners will have to approve? I don't believe the commissioners chose the replacement.

"lets hope our commissioners use there brain and put Kent Winstead in that seat..he should have won the last election anyway"

Wow. What a negative, ignorant thing to say about someone who has served the people of this county so selflessly.

I wish Sheriff Green the absolute best! Enjoy your retirement and may life be good to you. You deserve it!

Wish him well on his retirement. All the best. Time to change the decals on the cruisers...again.

I guess The Franklin County Democratic Party gets to do what it does best...undemocratic "selections".

Anyone heard yet who they "picked" to be the new Register of Deeds? Glad I got a say. grrrr.

Best Wishes to you for retiring for whatever reason just enjoy the life you have here on earth.. He has done a great job for Franklin County and I don't know if they will find someone as good as he has been this day and time. I know first hand how it is to have lost a spouse and raising a child keeping a household running and working.. Now he will have time to grieve the loss of his wife...
