Franklin County man charged with shooting girlfriend

A Franklin County man faces charges that he shot his girlfriend in the head, authorities said Friday.

LAKE ROYALE, N.C. — A Franklin County man faces charges that he shot his girlfriend in the head, authorities said Friday.

Rocky Mount police said an unknown person dropped off Jessica Ashworth, 24, at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount Thursday morning, then drove away. She was transferred to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville. Her condition was critical but stable Thursday.

Lake Royale police determined that Ashworth had been shot at her house at 106 Owaso Drive, between Bunn and Spring Hope.

Officers arrested her boyfriend, Gary Edward Robinson Jr., 21, when he returned to the house.

Robinson was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. He was placed in the Franklin County jail without bond.

Lake Royale police said additional charges are possible.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office assisted Lake Royale police with the investigation.
