Four suspected in two armed robberies

Rocky Mount police arrested four people between 16 and 20 years old suspected in an armed robbery and attempted armed robbery Wednesday night.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Rocky Mount police arrested four people between 16 and 20 years old suspected in an armed robbery and attempted armed robbery Wednesday night.

Deonte Jones, 19, Asia Brown, 16, Diereka Watson, 18, and Syraeeta Neal, 20, were each charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon. Brown, Watson and Neal were given separate $15,000 bonds.

Jones was also charged with possession of a weapon of mass destruction and given a $23,000 bond.

A 43-year-old man told police that while he was walking in the 300 block of Fairview Road around 10:45 p.m., a man got out the back seat of a burgundy car and approached him. The man pointed a shotgun at him and demanded money. The victim handed over his wallet and cell phone.

A 33-year-old man told police that he was walking in the 1200 block of Pitt Street shortly after 11 p.m. when a man got out of a burgundy vehicle. The man pointed a shotgun at him and told him to "come here." The victim ran away.

Later that night, police said, officers stopped a burgundy vehicle and inside it, found a sawed-off shotgun, red scarf, mask and a wallet belonging to the victim of the first robbery.

The vehicle's occupants were charged in the first robbery, and the investigation of the second continues.
